  Books Galore

Words: Jason Round

Our friends at www.pitstop.net.au and CapricornLink have some great stocking-fillers this year, or why not treat yourself and pick up one of these great titles for your own reading? Let’s have a closer look.

LAMBORGHINI TODAY: A TEMPO FURIOSO

Everyone would like a Lambo, but if you can’t cough up the considerable coin to add one to your collection, this book is perhaps the next best thing.
Taking a left-field, introspective look at the Raging Bull, the title offers some truly awe-inspiring shots of some of Lambo’s finest, including the Gallardo and Murcielago.
It also provides an in-depth look at the workers and history behind the marque along with the best photography you’re liable to see outside of Hot4s.
If you’re a lambo fan, you NEED this book. RRP $89.95.

BARRY SHEENE

As one of the motorcycle world’s great, Barry Sheene is an interesting insight into the man, his machines and his life.
The book on a whole is very candid and includes a detailed section on Barry’s struggle with cancer and injuries. It’s not skimpy on the odd photo or two as well, including a stack of photos previously unreleased to the press and words from family, friends and those in the racing world. RRP $59.95.

GREAT AMERICAN HOT RODS

This tome of all things hot rod literally lists every single American hot-rod model ever conceived, and we really do mean every single one of them thanks to its bulbous 752 pages.
There is a short blurb on each, as well as a specs panel and large image of tastefully restored examples – some more extreme than others.
The book is also divided up into performance, show, hardcore and so on, which does make navigating around its concrete-block sizing a tad easier. RRP $54.95.

ART OF THE BOBBER

The birth of the custom bike movement was heralded by the ‘bobber’ – a low-slung bike with bobbed fenders, custom paint, tricked-up engine and a stripped chassis.
In this mammoth book (and it truly is) are compiled stories and photos detailing 49 of the world’s hottest bobber builders and their bikes.
Really, the level of detail on some of the bikes within borders on insane, really reading like a pictorial ‘best-of’ American Chopper. There’s themed bikes and some with paintjobs so rich it looks like they’re still drying 10 years on.
Every bike is given plenty of space, with large, well-framed photos drawing you into the detail of these great machines. RRP $69.95.
