MICHAEL SCHUMACHER – THE WHOLE STORY
Christopher Hilton
$54.95

Well, you can’t talk about Formula One without mentioning Michael Schmacher, and aside from a cheesy early ’90s techno hit, everything he puts his name to literally turns to gold.

If you want to learn a little more about the man, the enigma, the mystery, then this is definitely something to add to your collection. It delves a little deeper than most, and if you can’t find any new information in its info-packed 430-odd pages, then, well, you’re just a freak, aren’t you?
Specifically, the book chronicles perhaps one of Schuie’s finest moments, that being his attempt to take home his eighth world championship in October 2006, Sao Paulo. Everything – and that means every tiny spec of detail – is covered, from the car’s set-up, to the other drivers and the psychology behind the race itself. It’s high drama, that’s for sure.

However, you can also learn about the man’s first ride (a crappy home-built go kart_, right through to his signing to Mercedes in 1991 as of the super-youngsters of the sport. All in all, it makes for fast-paced, edge-o’-your-seat stuff, and if you’re an F1 fan, it goes without saying that you need this book.

THE HOT ROD WORLD OF ROBT. WILLIAMS
Williams and Lavella
$69.95

If you’re coffee table is covered in crud and old Playboys with their pages stuck together, boy have we found something special to get those passers-by exclaiming ‘oh’ and ‘ah’.

Robert Williams comes to us with inordinate fame in the hot-rod world, specifically for his skill livin’ everything rod.
To say the man’s hot-rod mad is an understatement, and like the back of the book reads, “hot rods, motorsickles, carnies… hippies and punks, Bob has spent a lifetime simmering waist-deep in a spicy gonzo weirdness, and now he’s serving up a big bowl of his crazy life to you, oh hapless reader”.

Yes, it’s weird, but it’s also wonderful looking into a man so immersed in roddin’ culture, and if ever you’ve thrown a spanner around or simply looked longingly at that rat rod passin’ by, you’re sure to get some kind of enjoyment from this book.

Or you could just trip out to the psychedelic art… Cool, very cool.
