TOP GEAR: BACK IN THE FAST LANE
Review: Jason Round

We can’t get enough of Clarkson, Hammond and Captain Slow here in the office, and so it was high-fives all around when this latest release came through the door from our good friends at ABC Video and Roadshow Entertainment.

Maybe it’s the totally undiluted honesty we love, or maybe it’s gems like “Listen to that engine, sounds like Barry White eating wasps”, but we lap up each and every episode, and this one didn’t disappoint.

This latest tome chronicles some of the best and silliest parts of seasons one and two, including some always humorous skits with perennial fave, The Stig. There’s something for everyone, too, including the crawl-over-anything Land Rover Wildcat and throw-anything-at-me armour-plated Talon.

Personal fives of ours include the Supercar Challenge, which pits a Zonda, Mc F1 and Vanquish all up against each other and the super-crazy stunt segment, which sees a bus jump four bikes, grannies doing burnouts and a real crash test. Yes, there might be a bit of pain involved in the latter.

Jay Kay of Jamiroqui also makes an appearance along with UK others, but really it’s the cars and cracks you come for, and boy do they fly at it in full flight. We did, however, get particular amusement from trying to whip up a salad in the back of a moving VW camper. Great lad, that one.

All considered, we had great pride in adding this to the Hot4s DVD mantelpiece.

FINAL VERDICT: 5/5

Retailing for $19.95 RRP, this title and others in the Top Gear series are available from all good video retailers and ABC shops now.
