  DMC Battle Mode!
2007 DMC World DJ Championships

The 2007 DMC World DJ Championships have caused thousands of DJs to pivot their decks in battle-mode, and six minutes is all they have in which to get funky. That’s a six minute routine to try and win over the judges and the crowd.

Australia’s leg of the tournament is set to be massive with events held right across the nation. Take it from us; these shows are the ultimate DJ experience. After an overdose of hardcore vinyl pushing and beat-matching, you’ll really appreciate the significance of a DJ and how imperative they are to us, the consumers of music.

You don’t want to miss this out, so get your tickets now from Ticketek.com.au or inthemix.com.au.

PANNING IT OUT WITH PERPLEX

H4s
Hey dude, how are the wrists?

P - Sore man, real sore, I got RSI now! Repetitive scratch injury!

H4s
Being the 2006 champion and venturing through Euro-land, how has your perspective on stage
developed in the span of 1-year?

P- Actually, it has changed my perspective quite a bit.  I am now much more aware of how important and crucial it is to be original in everything you do.  This is because there are just so many people over there doing the same thing.  You really need to have our own angle, especially if you want to stick out from the crowd.

H4s
What exactly does being a DJ mean to you? (personally, benefits etc...)

P - It means that I get to do something I love all the time and get paid for it.  DJing is something I can do that I really enjoy and can also collect props for…

H4s
How do the Aussie crowds rock it compared to our Euro brothers?

P - It’s all fairley similar.  Once you are in the club, it’s mostly all the same, really you could be anywhere.  I did notice that the Euro crowds are a bit more educated as far as knowing their hip hop music, but the Aussie crowds still rock harder!

H4s
Are you anxious about defending your title? Like have you been going to the toilet more often?

P - Not really man. The set is all locked down now so the anxious part is somewhat over!  I’ve been working on it all year and its killer!

H4s
What are some of your favourite moves that rarely fail you on stage?

P - Lots of interaction with the crowd and lots of eye contact. You can’t have your head down the whole time.  I don’t really have any signature moves, I just lay it down raw…

H4s
What does a DJ of you calibre do on a typical Tuesday?

P - If I’m not at home practicing, I’ll be out doing a gig somewhere or spending time with my girl (not in that order).

H4s
Who are your major influences?

P - Birdy Nam Nam, A-Trak, D-Styles, Dj Smitten, ISP , X-Ecutioners, Dirty Duo, Dj Netik, Dj Trubl, Plutonic Lab, DJ Kentaro, and DJ Iemerg.

H4s
What do you think about today’s Hip-Hop and its direction for the future?

P - I don’t know about the the direction of Hip Hop in general but with Djing and the whole music industry, its going through a digital revolution right now.  The digital technologies are becoming much more prevalent making the artform more dynamic.  I think it’s great, it’s evolution you know.  Two turntables and a mixer is the format, now people are taking that to the next level.  In time, people will adapt, you can’t stop progress and it will be more Media J’ s than your traditional disk jockey.  I cant wait, there’s crazy stuff being developed at the moment.

H4s
Do you ever see yourself getting into production?

P - I am already there.  Plutonic Lab and myself produced my entire DMC routine from scratch this year.  I am having the record pressed up as we speak.  I’ve also been working on mixtapes, blends, re-edits and some beats.

H4s
Are there any DJ’s coming up in Australia that we should be watching?

P - Yep there’s this guy, DJ B.2WO who is really killer. He is definitely on some international standard tip.

H4s
If Hot4’s built you a custom car with a full DJ and audio set-up in the back, what car would you like it to be?

P - A monster truck. WORD! With fuel efficiency.

H4s
What is your favourite car anyway?

P - 1998 Subaru Liberty. Silver with nice wheels and dumped right down.

H4s
Thanks P, we’ll be seeing you at the Sydney  show! All the best!

P - Thanks guys. Peace
