  HANGIN' WITH MR COOPER

Words: Jason Round

John Cooper Works has always been synonymous with hotting up Minis, and it’s just pulled off the wraps on the new JCW tuning kit for the ’07 Mini S turbo.

For simplification’s sake, the kit is basically an exhaust, intake and re-map in the power stakes, which help to raise output to 250Nm, or 270Nm with overboost. That’s around 141kW, and still a little short of other hot hatches doing the rounds, such as Mazda’s 190kW MPS.

In addition, the modified Mini will also feature perforated rotors, special 18in alloys, as well as bodykits, carbon-fibre trimmings and specially designed JCW sport seats and steering wheels.

A trendy JCW carbon-fibre roof spoiler gets the tick of approval in our books, with the race-spec material also seen on the front inlet, exterior mirrors and tail-gate handle.

The range will also include custom features, such as additional driving lights, illuminated sill covers, Union Jack rearview and side mirrors, and even chequered-flag designs.

Our fave piece of the customisation cake, though, is the helicopter landing pad roof motif. You know, for when you park at the airport and what have you…

Details regarding availability and pricing for the mechanical John Cooper Works kits for the Australian market will be released in due course, but cosmetic options can be ordered on new MINIs now. Visit www.mini.com.au.
